Canning City Centre
The City of Canning has committed to creating a vibrant City Centre – we say Perth’s Southern CBD. We will achieve this through the implementation of a robust environmental, social and economic platform.
The revitalised City Centre with a rejuvenated streetscape for Cecil Avenue will anchor the area with a mixed-use and a pedestrian-friendly tree lined street. Incorporating an inviting space for people of all ages, backgrounds and professions, new streetscapes and a vibrant public realm will create a more diverse and vital City Centre, both day and night.
The City Centre will feature high density residential accommodation in desirable locations near the train station and adjoining Westfield Carousel, which significantly increased its retail space in late 2018. Adding a level of energy to the area and helping to bring the space to life, the expansion of Westfield Carousel is a significant factor in shaping the success of the City Centre.
The $76m City Centre Regeneration Program is expected to deliver 10,000 new homes for 25,000 new residents, resulting in economic benefits of up to $2.2 billion in gross value, while giving the area a long awaited ‘heart’ by:
- Connecting the Cannington train station to the river by creating a pedestrian link through the City Centre
- Delivering greater vibrancy day and night by creating a Transit Orientated Development near the train station and through the expansion of the Westfield Carousel shopping centre
- Providing greater diversity of use, employment and accessibility
- Featuring a new Market Square, Multicultural Street Market and Train Station Square
