Safe Canning Strategy
Community safety is everyone's responsibility.
Creating a connected community and ensuring people feel safe and welcome, are key aspirations in the Council Plan 2026 – 2036. Delivery of the Safe Canning Strategy 2027 – 2031 (the Strategy) is identified as a key goal to help achieve these aspirations.
The Strategy provides the framework that guides our community safety activities. It has been informed by community and stakeholder engagement, crime and demographic data, and local insights which have shaped our focus on People, Place, and Partnerships.

From Strategy to Action
The Strategy provides the long-term direction and is supported by biennial Action Plans. The current Action Plan (2026-2027) outlines the initiatives and programs the City will deliver to support the Strategy’s focus areas. At the conclusion of each Action Plan, priorities are reviewed and a new Action Plan is developed.
Reporting
We monitor community safety trends, community perceptions, and progress against the Strategy through annual surveys and ongoing review of crime data.
