Community Citizen of the Year Awards 2025

Each year the Community Citizen of the Year Awards, run by Auspire – Australia Day Council WA, give local governments around the state a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge the positive contribution of people within their community.

These prestigious awards celebrate individuals and organisations who are engaged and committed to our local area and have made significant contribution to their community during the past year, or those who have given exceptional service over a sustained period.

The City of Canning would like to take this opportunity to encourage our local community to participate by nominating someone they feel worthy of these awards. The award winners will be announced at the City of Canning’s Australia Day Family Fun Day event on Sunday 26 January 2025 at the Shelley Foreshore.

The Community Citizen of the Year Awards have been recognising local heroes for more than 20 years and are made up of four categories:

• Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals over 16 years)
• Young Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 16-30 years)
• Senior Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 65 years and over)
• Active Citizenship (for community groups or events)

The award recipients will be judged to have shown community engagement and:

• significant contribution to the local community
• demonstrate leadership on a community issue resulting in the enhancement of community life
• a significant initiative which has brought about positive change and added value to community life
• inspiring qualities as a role model for the community.

Nominations for the 2025 Community Citizen of the Year Awards are now open until 31 October 2024 and can be submitted at www.citizenshipawards.com.au/nominate .

Who Can Nominate?

Anyone within a community with local knowledge of that community and its active citizens may nominate including:

• Members of the public.
• Individuals on behalf of a group or organisation.
• Local council staff and Elected Members
