Canning to put on a spectacular display for New Year’s Day
Shelley Beach foreshore will be buzzing with excitement on New Year’s Day when the City of Canning’s annual concert and fireworks display descends on the banks of the Canning River.
On Wednesday 1 January, Shelley Beach will come to life to celebrate the beginning of 2025, with the foreshore and stunning Canning River providing the perfect setting for an afternoon and evening of fantastic family fun.
The free to enter event commences at 3.30pm and will feature some wonderful stage performances from Proof the Band, two local musicians performing solos, and a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Sandra Harben.
There’ll also be lots of activities to keep the whole family entertained including kid’s inflatables, face painting, crafts and storytelling.
The fireworks display will conclude the evening with the show running for approximately 15 minutes, from 8pm – 8.15pm.
Mayor Patrick Hall said this event provides a great opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the beginning of 2025.
“The annual New Year’s Day Concert and Fireworks always attracts a great crowd, it’s so nice to see so many people from our community coming together to celebrate a time of hope and new beginnings.
“With loads of entertainment and a great range of food trucks, this year’s the event will also feature the fantastic new Shelley Beach playground which was officially opened on 18 December,” Mayor Hall said.
The New Year’s Day Concert and Fireworks will be the first major event since the opening of the new Shelley Beach playground, which offers three unique play areas, a custom Park Warrior course, sensory elements, and interactive structures for children of all ages.
Community members can bring a rug and picnic, there will also be food trucks featuring a diverse range of cuisines, with food and refreshments available for purchase.
There will be free onsite parking however as parking is limited, people are encouraged to carpool or take public transport, or walk or ride a bike where possible.
This year’s event will also operate a shuttlebus from an offsite carpark at Centenary Park, Wilson. Road closures will be in place around the immediate event site.
