Let’s honour their sacrifices this ANZAC Day

On Friday 25 April the City of Canning, in partnership with the Canning Districts Returned Services League (RSL) Sub Branch, will honour those who have served, and continue to serve our nation, at the annual ANZAC Day march and service.

Residents are invited to come along and be apart of this special morning, with the march commencing at 7.45am from Kent Street and finishing at the City’s Civic Amphitheatre and Gardens.

A memorial service will follow at 8am at the Civic Amphitheatre, featuring Jo Matthews from Wairua Tipuna, the Canning City Brass Band, Rossmoyne Community Choir, and Fremantle Pipes and Drums.

This is a free event that will be AUSLAN interpreted and light refreshments will be offered after the service thanks to the Canning Lions Club.

Mayor Patrick Hall encourages Canning residents come along and pay tribute to those who have sacrificed so much for our great nation.

"I feel incredibly fortunate to call Australia home. We live in such a stunning country that provides us with both freedom and safety."

"This memorial service is part of a national commitment that brings together thousands of communities across the country, all sharing the same sentiment—to honour and commemorate the sacrifices of others," said Mayor Hall.

Everyone is welcome to watch the march, attend the service or to be a part of the wreath laying ceremony.

To participate in the wreath laying please email the City’s Major Events Team at events@canning.wa.gov.au to arrange drop-off and receive instructions for the ceremonial protocols.

Parking will be available at the City’s Administration Building, Civic Amphitheatre and Gardens and off Carden Drive behind the Cannington police station. There will be a free shuttle bus running from the Civic Amphitheatre to the march starting point from 6.45am – 7.45am.

Road closures will take place from 7am from Kent Street, leading to a section of Fleming Avenue and then up George Street West to the entrance to the Civic Centre Amphitheatre and gardens. Small sections of Gledhill Way and Queens Park Road will also be closed while the march passes through.

For those who are up early, the Canning Districts RSL and Riverton RSL will also be holding services at 6am prior to the City of Canning's Service.
